Crafted with Tradition New Seiko Presage Highlights the Natural Beauty of Arita Porcelain

Seiko’s craftsmanship meets Arita porcelain tradition in a uniquely refined dial.

Presage Expands Its Legacy of Japanese Craftsmanship

Since its debut in 2016, the Presage collection has fused Japanese artistry with Seiko’s renowned mechanical watchmaking expertise. Celebrated for dials crafted in enamel, urushi lacquer, Shippo enamel, and Arita porcelain, Presage continues to honor traditional techniques.

Now, the Presage Classic Series introduces a new creation featuring a refined, unglazed Arita porcelain dial—offering a uniquely organic texture that reflects the timeless elegance of Japanese craftwork.

A New Dimension in Arita Porcelain Dial Craft

For the first time in the Presage collection, unglazed Arita porcelain is used to create a dial with a uniquely soft, matte finish. While traditional Arita porcelain is glazed for a glossy appearance, the unglazed approach offers a warm white hue and emphasizes the delicate texture of the material—highlighting its intricate, three-dimensional detailing.

This new technique enhances the dial’s rhombus-patterned surface around the indexes, a traditional Japanese motif symbolizing prosperity and good health. Gold-colored hands and indexes contrast elegantly against the porcelain, adding depth and refined brilliance to this exceptional timepiece.

Crafted from LWG-certified leather, the black strap adds a refined touch that pairs perfectly with the matte white dial.

Masterful Craftsmanship, Enduring Tradition

Each Arita porcelain dial undergoes a meticulous, multi-stage process requiring precise molding and firing techniques—an effort that demands both exceptional skill and patience. To ensure the durability needed for everyday wear, artisans use a specially formulated Arita porcelain that is over four times harder than traditional porcelain. The dial’s intricate pattern is achieved through high-precision casting molds, under the guidance of master craftsman Hiroyuki Hashiguchi. The production is led by Toshiaki Kawaguchi and his team at a long-established Arita workshop dating back to 1830, where tradition and innovation meet. This collaboration reflects Seiko’s commitment to preserving artisanal horology and supporting sustainable craftsmanship in alignment with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 9: fostering resilient infrastructure, inclusive industrialization, and innovation.
