In 2025, the World Athletics Championships return to Tokyo for the first time in 34 years. Seiko will once again deploy its state-of-the-art timing technology in its founding city, marking a historic milestone in its sports timing heritage.
To commemorate this significant occasion, Seiko presents the Prospex Speedtimer Solar Chronograph Limited Edition, a tribute to both its own legacy and the exceptional performances of the approximately 2,000 athletes expected to compete at the championships

The dial of the limited-edition Speedtimer is rendered in a striking shade inspired by Edo purple—a color deeply rooted in Japanese culture and once cherished in the ancient city of Edo, now modern-day Tokyo. This regal hue was chosen as the official color of the World Athletics Championships Tokyo 25, linking the timepiece directly to the city’s historic and athletic legacy.
Shaped by Seiko’s storied heritage, the new Speedtimer inherits the highly legible dial style first introduced in 1972. Its design draws from the flowing aesthetic of Speedtimer chronographs produced between the 1960s and 1970s, blending vintage character with contemporary precision.
As with all Speedtimer chronographs, functionality takes center stage. The chronograph seconds hand extends to the very edge of the dial for optimal readability, while the date window is positioned discreetly between indexes to preserve symmetry and ensure precise time reading at a glance. Every detail is engineered to meet the demands of elite-level timekeeping.

Seiko’s solar Caliber V192 drives this limited-edition Prospex Speedtimer, offering a 60-minute chronograph, a 24-hour sub-dial, and up to six months of operation on a full charge—without further exposure to light.
Combining sport and sophistication, the watch features curved sapphire glass and a bracelet finished with both hairline and mirror polishing. Its substantial build ensures stability and comfort on the wrist.
